UK Police should help in Calais with the migrant problem? Non!

Media release.

Kent Police Federation says "non" to Kent Police officers being deployed to Calais to deal with the migrant problem.

Ian Pointon, Chairman of Kent Police Federation says,

"The government has ruled out sending UK police officers to Calais to deal with the migrant problem. I welcome that. I fear that, as the closest police force to France, any deployment to Calais would almost certainly have included Kent Police officers."

He continues,

"After swingeing budget cuts, those I represent are struggling to cope with their workloads in Kent without being deployed to Calais, away from their families, to resolve another sovereign country's problems."

He concludes,

"When the Port of Calais is closed and Operation Stack is implemented, effectively turning the M20 into a giant lorry park, we do not call for help from across the Channel. Kent Police officers deal with it."
